SOUND ARTIST GLEEN IS AIMING FOR THE CHARTS
GLEEN Wallis has a very individual aproach to his music. He records alone in
the bedroom of his Gillingham home on a portastudio and his gigs are performed
with the help of only an extra guitarrist.
Yet his records sell all over the world. He receives letters from interested
listeners in Canada and all over Europe. And his band will be one of only two
British acts at a top Spanish musical festival soon.
But Gleen says not many people in this country- especially the Medway Towns -
have ever heard of him, his band, called Kon-struktivits or his music.
He has played on gig in the area, at Chatham, where he was forced to leave
the stage after a quarter of an hour by a hostile disco audience thet did not
appreciate his ambient electronic sound.
UNDERGROUND
For as Glenn readily admits his songs bear little relation to music, compri-
sing layers of sound built up to achieve some dramatic effects - well, most
of the time.
But that could all soon change. Glenn started working on his projeect after
becoming involved with those arch funsters and macabre tunesmiths Throbbing
Gristle about five or six years ago.
He became one of their "control agents" - he helped with gig organization- and
then started his own band. Since then, he has released two L.Ps on the Third
Mind record label based in Whitstable.
He will shortly be relelasing his third album, called "Black December" and
April should see the release of his first collaboration with Chris and Cosey-
ex Throbbing Gristle- under the name of Conspiracy International.
Glenn said: " I am not a musician- I suppose I am a sound artist. The songs
are not structured- I never use a drum machine alone, but put it through an
echo machine.
It is hard to work with other people-my music is made up of my own personal
views and feelings. It is difficult for the other peopleto get to grips with
what you say.
The tracks are my own interpretations all the time. I very rarely use lyrics
you get more informations across with just music. I like doing sound tracks
Brian Eno. I think music should stand up on its own.
Glenn says he gets a better reaction from abroad than from most parts of this
country but adds:" People in London and Europe seem to like it though."
But now, with Chris and Cosey at the controls, Glenn plans to go for a more
disco-oriented commercial approach."When I was working with them we used com-
puters and it was very syinchronised."
He will also be using a proper studio to record instead of transferring his
music from his portastudio cassettes to eight-tracks in London, wich means he
will be able to use vocals.
However, it will prove more expensive- his last albums cost only L.st.200 to
record.
Glenn can be contacted through Third Mind Records at 27 Spire Avenue,
Whitstable.
KONSTRUKTIVITS
'Black December' (Third Mind TMLP 05)****
THERE'S SOMETHING lurking whitin the make-up of Konstruktivits that's a little
more than disturbing. Central pivot and power point Glenn Michael Wallis is an
intense person, soft-spoken but convinced about what he's doing and constantly
in the process of improving it.
To say there ve been two previous Konstruktivits would be to sell him short
too>There's been wodges of cassettes and contributions for other things and -
so the legend goes- moudds of as yet unreleased material line the man's walls.
Wallis works whit electronics. He bends them and shapes them whit great style.
His vinyl artefacts to date have been harsh.
shattered-even disembowled -but this...
'Black December' is something else altogether.Like a computer technician. Wal-
lis has stored and sifted through his electronic forefather and producer his
own bastard son which draws as much from Cluster and Schulze as it does fromm
Throbbing Gristle and AMM. There is almost melody at times.Floating harmonious
'Black December' must surely be the most innovative electronic album for
quiete some time. Whether this is the ultimate direction for Konsturhtivits is
another thing is that Wallis et al never once collapse into the pure plagia-
rism that so many post-Schulte clones have. 'Black December' is a spark of
light in a tired and almost forgotten musical area.
DAVE HENDERSON.

Dear Gianni Romizzi,
Many thamk's for your letter of I am the main person of the group,
which was formed in 1978. I started doing odd tape's with Robert Rental in
79/80 in his flat in London.
In 1981 i got a Portastudio 4 track, which I started do my our recording
of Electronic Music, under the Eitle of N.K.V.D. I did 3 cassette flowmotion
records. At this moment in time I did my first Album " A Dissembly for flow-
motion" In which 500 copies were made. In 1982 I signed to third-mind records.
I had many tape's on 4 track cassette which I transfered to 8 track multi-
track, at I.P.S. Studios in London which I started to do the L.P. "Psyko-
Genekia".
At this very moment in video is being made. Psyko-Genekia was made to be more
of a accompaniment for Horror movie.
Only 1000 copies were ever made. But 90 minute version has been release in
America on cassette formats last year.
Also some work's from 1984, for the American market called "Spanish
Movements" a C90 cassette. My third L.P. 'Black December' which was also
released on Third-Mind Record's was my last full L.P. in the type of
electronic. I falt that I was not getting the recognition, which I hope for.
I felt if I had a decent studio to work with, I could traslate some thing
powerful and dynamic.
In July of 1985 I that I have done just that with "Glennaseaul".
The album came out only last on Sterile Record's. It was recorded at
Chris e Cosey's Studio 47.
As I am not a musican I feed that not limited to a certain influence. Plus I
cannot copy other people. of influence the people who influence me
are Nash and Slash, Yello, Tuxedomoon, John Foxx, MIke Oldfield and Michael
Rothes.
I think my influence show in " " a great . At the moment
I am writing song's for my next L.P. I havent done no gig's for nearly a year
as I got married last August, and also a baby on the way in a weeks. But
I hope to have another L.P. out by the End of the year.
I have enclosed a few info sheet on Konstruktivists if you want know more,
please do do you write to me

Dear Gianni Romizzi,
Thank you for your interest in New 7 th music.
Here is some information on New 7 th Music now is started and what we do and
play.
Firstly some personal influence that may or may not have contributed to the
forming of New 7 th Music are: Psychedelic/Acid Rock of the 60's, Avant harde
music, people like Pierre Henry, Liget, Peuderecki, John Cage, Stockhausen and
others, also the melodic music of Klaus Shulze, Philip Glass, Steve Reich,
Indian Music and lots more.
In 1974 I started experimenting making my own music with the use of tape
recorders, pre-recorders sound dubs etc. not being satisfied with working this
way the next step was to farm a group to play spontaneous improvised music.
Placed ad. in local news paper and received only one reply This was in 1975.
Our very first performance, with an added guest, was sitting in the widdle of an
open field surrounded bells and birds added to the performance.
We found the beach to be a good plac e to play-sea noises and the prom. Came
to good use as a reverberation wall. The outcome of all this was just the
occasional improvised session with just two of us, he being a student spent
most of his time away leaving me with the frustration of a not fullfilling my
interest in Music. So it was not until 1979 with a little persuasion and a
great deal of help from a friend, Heather, that we set out once again to try
to form a group of an experimental improvised nature. Me placed ads. in shop
windows in four different towns, up to thirty miles away!
The results of this were unexpectatlygood, the outcome was five people
including myself. I hired a music room at the local leisure centre and on 11.
11.79 we held our first session. The line up of the group has undergone a
costant change ever since, sometimes we hava been down to only two people-
myself and Heather. The most weve had is ten people.
We mainly release our music via cassette tape; various distributors are rele-
asing our music around the world. Our first gig was 31.03.81 at the Kings'and
Hall, Southampton, and since then we have done numerous gigs in and around
London. Me have found it difficoult to find suitable places to play our music
as we are very experimental.
Our first contribution to vinyl (record)was on the Recloose "Sudden Departure"
compilation L.P. followed by "The Elephant tuble Album (X Tract Records) There
have been others since and we would like to do more compilation records when
possible. The instruments we use range from synthesisers, drum/machines,
guitars, echo, voices, tapes, flutes, violin, piano, woodblocks, cimbals,
xylophones and anything.
New 7th Music is a group open to everyone who wants to experiment with music.
Non musicians aswell as musicians are welcome to play with us.
At the moment we have joind forces with a rock band to performe and explorer
the possibilities of rock and the avant gard.
Our first tape release with this new line up will be released by " Dark Star
Records and tapes of Leicester. I enclose a copy of one of our other releases
with this new music. We have been on various compilation tapes and have a
large number of our tapes available, all our music is recorded live and is
improvised.
I hope this will give you some understanding about New 7th Music. Me wish
you well with your book. Please let me know how things go and it you need
more information.
Thank you again for you interest.
All the best
Phil.

Dear Gianni
'FOR YOUR EARS ONLY' (Cat.no.TMLP17/18), a sumptuous double album compilation
set, was released on April 10th.Consisting of two records in an attractive
Timothy Read designed full colour sleeve, the package is made complete with
the addition of four page leaflet detailing the current Third Mind Record
manifesto.
Record One comprises songs from the current Third Mind stable of six groups-
Bushido Pritchard, All Singing All Dancing and Credit - and is made up almost
exclusively of new material. Record Two meanwhile includes more new, remixed
and rare songs by most of the above, as well as tracks from Edward Ka-Spel,
Badland, Frontline Assembly, Intimate Obsessions, Simon Fisher Turner, Tragic
Venus, Konstruktivits, and Jung Analysts.
Extremely varied in content, FOR ONLY EARS ONLY contains 25 songs in all by
14 different groups and has a total running time of over 100 minutes. With the
same retail price as a single L.P. this collection also represent real value
for money and serves as an ideal introduction to what Third Mind Records has
on offer in 1987.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our promotional budget for FOR YOUR EARS ONLY has already been exhausted.
However, if you are interested in receiving a copy of this, and advance relea-
se copies of our next two album debuts
TMLP19 Bill Pritchard - Bill Pritchard
TMLP20 oBSESSION - bEAUTIFUL Pea Green Boat
which are due for release in Europe during the first week of May, then we will
require a payment of L.st. in either English currency or by International
Money Order, to cover air postage, packing and manufacturing cost.
We apologise that we are presently unable to supply free promotional copies
of our new release, but would hope that your interest in Third Mind Records is
sufficient to warrant further investigation into these records. We will look
forward to hearing from you.
UPCOMING RELEASE
----------------
Planned for release in May are the debut LP's from both BILL PRITCHARD and
BEAUTIFUL PEA GREEN BOAT. Having garnered many excellent reviews in the
European press since their signing to Third Mind Records in mid-1986 and
subsequent appearance on the label's "Future Tense" (TMLP15) sampler in
September, these two artists have been gaining a good reputation.
TMLP19 Bill Pritchard - Bill Pritchard
TMLP20 Obsessions - Beautiful Pea Green Boat
These records represent two distinct sides to Third Mind's multifaceted 1987
recording and promotion campaign.
BILL PRITCHARD is highly talented solo performer (augmented live on stage by
French bass player Joel) whose blend of The The, Bill Nelson, The Monochrome
Set and Jean Cocteau has been particularly well received in France. His
eponymously titled LP, immaculately produced by Rod Beale (of Peter Gabriel
and Donny Osmond fame), is sure to win a lot of new admirers, being full of
imaginative, literary, yet concisely understated observations about modern
society.
"Obsessions" by BEAUTIFULL PEA GREEN BOAT on the other hand is an epic
travelogue through the windmills of the mind, an exciting series of
extravagant images stretched out across fifty minutes of intense,
breathtaking music. Comparisons can perhaps be made with Cocteau Twins,
Kraftwerk, Philip Glass, Yello and Propaganda, but this pot pourri of
influences has been moulded into a sound distinctly their own. The group
consist of Ian Williams, Heather Wright and Mervyn Wright and this album
is joint release between Third Mind and their Mr. Slaughterback's Records.
Both groups will be touring Europe together throughtout the summer to promote
these LP releases.
More records will appear as the year continues, including the long awaited
new album by BUSHIDO and live LP by ATTRITION. Full details will appear
nearer the release dates.
We are interested in finalising licensing and finished product arrangements
around the world for our records, to include future product as well as back
catalogue items. A copy of our complete record catalogue has been included
with this letter for those unfamiliar with our past releases.
